Comedian Leigh Francis, the man behind Bo’ Selecta ,Avid Merrion, and Celebrity Juice is to record a novelty Christmas single alongside Stone Cold Sober singer Paloma Faith he announced today.
Speaking to Iain Lee’s Absolute Radio show in character as his latest comedy creation, northern businessman Keith Lemon, Francis revealed he’s already been in contact with Faith and is keen to get to work on a reworked version of popular yule-tide favourite Jingle Bells very soon.
“I’m going to do a song with Paloma Faith….Yeah, yeah, we’re going to do Jingle Bells. I’m not joking… I texted her, I texted her and said ‘Do you want to do a Christmas single, I’m due for one?’And she said yes… Yeah, she’s up for Jingle Bells. I’m going to meet her, she’s in America at the moment, she’s going to give me a call when she’s back…..I’m giving you exclusive chip here”
Francis has form in this area, having previously released Proper Crimbo a Bo’ Selecta spin-off with celebrity cameos that reached number four in the UK charts in the 2003 Christmas charts.
This year Francis, assisted by the well-loved ‘proper singer’ Paloma, will be hoping to go three better and fight off fierce competition from the X Factor winner and myriad anti-Cowell records and via for the top spot.
Speaking of his relationship with Paloma Faith, Francis (as Lemon) joked: “Yes, well I did a podcast thing with her. She asked if I would be a judge on Britain’s Next Top Tranny, right, I said I would do, and then I looked on my schedule, that I couldn’t do it because it was on the same night I was filming Celebrity Juice”.
He continued “I didn’t tell her that, but then I said ‘Well can I phone you on one of these podcasty things?’ and she said ‘Well why don’t I come in?’ So she came in anyway, we did the podcast, and then I told her I couldn’t do it, just in case she wouldn’t come in”.
